Reminiscing our DBS Kadayawan Memories with GrabFood

It has been a tradition in Davao City for 36 years to celebrate the Kadayawan festival. Many festivities and events are being held during the festival, most notably the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan, where many sectors and groups in Davao participate to showcase the bountiful fruits and their dazzling costumes. But apart from that, countless food events take place where people can satisfy their cravings and enjoy new food offerings in the city.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, these countless Kadayawan events are only being experienced online and in the comfort of our homes.

This year, the Kadayawan is mostly about food, and the events are online. Hence, we have no choice but to celebrate it at home. It’s a good thing that GrabFood exists to cater to our nostalgic memories through food cravings, especially in a festive event.

This year, GrabFood offers a lot of promos and freebies to ensure that the Kadayawan is extra memorable! Read on to get a chance to win P10,000 worth of GrabFood vouchers.

DBS Kadayawan Memories

Despite the online Kadayawan events, one cannot help but miss what it was like without the pandemic and its restrictions. A lot of parties, bazaars, gatherings, shows were the mainstay. Davaoeños and visitors can choose which event they want to go to every year.

As for the Davao Bloggers Society, the Kadayawan was a month-long (and even more) food and event adventure. Hence, it’s pretty sad that we only get to celebrate it at home and not with our co-bloggers.

Olive Lim of OC-Craft reminisces about the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan

“The Kadayawan festival is one of the most awaited events in Davao City. It is a celebration of thanksgiving for life, nature, and abundant harvest. It also pays tribute to the lumads, a collective group of indigenous people living in the city.

One of the highlights during the festival is the “Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan,” or the Street Dancing competition. Before my husband and I got married, we decided to have a prenup session in the middle of the parade. We bumped into the participants and took photos with them. Their vibrant costumes and happy faces will make you feel the festivities.”

Andrew of DREW.BLOG reminisces about going around the city to check out street food places selling durian with friends

“My most favorite memory of Kadayawan was when I ate durian with my friends on Torres Street in 2019. This was the last Kadayawan where everyone was able to roam freely and enjoy the occasion since the pandemic started. When I think of Kadayawan, the durian fruit comes to mind right away. There really is no better way to celebrate Kadayawan than by eating a lot of it!”

DBS’ Favorite Kadayawan GRABFOOD Offerings

During the Kadayawan season, the Davao Bloggers Society goes to a lot of restaurants and cafes in the city, not just for campaigns, but for special gatherings as well. Food events pave the way for the members to bond with each other and for old members to get to know new members. Compared to other DBS events, sharing and tasting food has always been the best bonding activity.

Ria Jose Of Kusina Maria recommends Lachi’s Durian Sans Rival

“Lachi’s Sans Rival is one of those handful sans rivals that everyone must try. Everything is well done… crunchy and airy meringue with smooth, rich, and creamy buttercream in between, accented by generous amounts of chopped cashew nuts. But Lachi’s doesn’t stop there, they have also produced the ideal pastry for durian virgins… the Durian Sans Rival.

Lachi’s Durian Sans Rival has just the right amount of durian in the buttercream. This pastry is perfect for those averse to the durian smell since you can vaguely smell the durian in the sans rival. First-timers can try the taste of durian without dealing with the offputting durian smelling. The durian flavor blends so well with the smooth buttercream that you can taste the durian flavor without getting overwhelmed by it. The meringue has that distinct combination of crunch and airiness that flawlessly complements the durian buttercream. The crunch of the buttery cashew nuts adds another layer of flavor and texture to Durian Sans Rival.

Durian Sans Rival by Lachi’s is a decadent must-try Davao dessert. Like the durian fruit, it is the KING.”

DBS Thanksgiving Gathering with Friends and Brand Partners at Lachi’s Sans Rival Atbp.

One of the fondest memories of the org was the Thanksgiving dinner held in Kadayawan in 2018. Some of the org’s friends and most of its active members gathered to celebrate the organization and bond with their partners. It was one of the highlights of the org in the year 2018. I’m sure many of the members are currently reminiscing about it.

NeP-C Ledesma of Electricmoi‘s favorite Lumpia Shanghai in Davao

“The New Davao Famous Restaurant has been around in ages. Despite the emerging Chinese restaurants in Davao City, no one has yet beat them in offering the most scrumptious Chinese meals. One of my most favorite meals from their restaurant is their lumpia shanghai. No Lumpia Shanghai is ever this good!

As for my DBS memory, I was still a new member when I attended this event from Davao Famous. I was very shy, but the members who attended the event welcomed me. They didn’t make me feel left out. Hence, I ate a lot in the restaurant and even brought home some of the meals!”

Gem Tadefa of Pages Flipper loves everything about SouthWing Bistro

“SouthWing’s lip-smacking chicken wings are truly crisp-skinned and juicy. Each flavor is cooked right and not overly-sauced. I can say is that SouthWing only offers food of superb quality. Everything is entirely worthy and affordable.” Order them on SOUTHWING CAFETERIA GRABFOOD Now.

Athina of The Angliongtos swears bySpark Coffee + Crafts’ Lasagna

“Believe me when I say that this is definitely THE BEST LASAGNA IN TOWN! I swear… I even crave about this when I am at the office. A pasta lover like myself (though not an expert) would know if lasagna is fit to be called LASAGNA (I don’t know if that makes sense but, whatever!), and yes, this is definitely the true definition of LASAGNA for me. For less than two hundred pesos, one serving of lasagna is already good for two people (or just one if you’re really a pasta lover like myself). The cheese on top is enough to complement the thick pasta, which leaves the person a full and happy tummy. Definitely a must-try.”

Order this delicious lasagna at SPARKS COFFE + CRAFTS GRABFOOD store.
