Meet the Advocates: Mutya ng Dabaw 2024 Contestants Making a Difference

In the vibrant city of Davao, the 87th Araw ng Dabaw is in full swing, and one of the standout events is the highly anticipated Mutya ng Dabaw pageant. This year, 29 remarkable Dabawenyas are competing for the coveted title, each representing a district or barangay in Davao City.

The candidates, with grace and determination, bring with them various advocacies, aiming to make a positive impact in their communities. From body positivity to gender rights, mental wellness to children’s rights, these Dabawenyas are advocating for causes close to their hearts.

During their press presentation with digital content creators, we had the pleasure of meeting some of these incredible candidates and learning about their inspiring advocacies.

Candidate 25 – Darlene Paula Dichoso (Baliok): Advocating for Sustainable Cities and Communities
Darlene is passionate about creating environmentally sustainable cities. She believes that by prioritizing cleanliness and efficiency, we can reduce the risk of natural disasters and other calamities, making our communities safer and more resilient.

Candidate 26 – Charlene Mamparo (Barangay 5-A Bankerohan): Advocating for Education
Charlene, representing Barangay 5-A Bankerohan, is a staunch advocate for education. She sees her journey with Mutya ng Dabaw and her role as a vlogger as opportunities to elevate learning in Davao and amplify the importance of education.

Candidate 27 – Krizia Rafaela Bumanlag: Fighting for Women Empowerment
Krizia is on a mission to empower women and boost their sense of self-worth. Through her advocacy, she aims to promote equality and create a supportive environment for women to thrive.

Candidate 28 – Nicole Sydney Orencia Fontillas (Barangay Alfonso Angliongto Sr.): Advocating for Sustainable Agriculture
Nicole is dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture to achieve a holistic approach to food production. Her advocacy aims to balance economic, social, and environmental aspects, benefitting both the local farmers and the community at large.

Candidate 29 – Mereyl T Del Puerto (Barangay Talomo Proper): Advocating for Literacy Programs
Mereyl is championing literacy programs, driven by her firsthand experience of witnessing poor reading capabilities in some Davao schools. She envisions a future where everyone has equal opportunities to read and write.

Candidate 30 – Fredelma Nova Tenasas Corporal (Barangay Governor Paciano Bangoy): Advocating for Health and Community Projects
Fredelma, a health respiratory practitioner and member of the local Red Cross, is focused on community projects like Project Wash and Buhay Kultura. Her aim is to provide equal access to health services and educate communities on taking charge of their health and hygiene.

As the coronation approaches on March 15, the question remains: Who will take home the crown and be crowned Mutya ng Dabaw 2024? With such dedicated advocates, each deserving in their own right, the competition is undoubtedly fierce.
