Get to Know the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012

President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed Republic Act No. 10175, also know as Cybercrime Prevention Act on September 12, 2012.

Under this new law, the following offenses are punishable:

  1. Offenses against the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer data and systems:
    1. Illegal access
    2. Illegal interception
    3. Data Interference
    4. System Interference
    5. Misuse of devices
    6. Cyber-squatting
  2. Computer-related Offenses:
    1. Computer-related Forgery
    2. Computer-related Fraud
    3. Computer-related Identity Theft
  3. Content-related Offenses:
    1. Cybersex
    2. Child Pornography
    3. Unsolicited Commercial Communications
    4. Libel

Any person found guilty will face imprisonment and fines ranging from P50,000 to P1M, depending on the offense. The said Act has an appropriation of PHP50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million) annually.
