Holcim, the leader in cement manufacturing in the Philippines, has recently highlighted its commitment to helping Mindanao rise again amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the ongoing threats, the company reiterates its commitment to the region, while maintaining health and safety.

Health, Cash, and Cost

On September 2, 2020, a virtual media briefing with Development Authority (MinDA) and Holcim discussed the latter’s new framework in acknowledging the challenges brought about by Covid-19. Through the Health, Cash, and Cost Framework, the company can empower Mindanao while maintaining health and safety measures.

“Our company responded quickly and effectively to the challenging situation, and we remain confident in bouncing back and sustaining our commitment to support our partners. Our response is focused on three areas: Health, Cash, and Cost. The priority is keeping our people healthy and safe; second is making sure that we preserve our cash so we can support our company needs and third is being mindful about costs, so we only spend on the essential aspects of the business,” said Jena Rojas, Holcim Philippines’ Senior Vice President and Chief Finance Officer.

Taking these into consideration, Holcim also introduced new leaders for its facilities in Misamis Oriental and Davao Plant Managers, Arnold Pepino, and Sam Manlosa. Both of them talked about the importance of being prudent about its spending and budget and its efforts to keep operations safer. What’s great about it is that the leaders of Holcim Mindanao plants are purely Mindanawons, the first time in history.

Supporting Mindanao’s Manufacturing Industry

On September 10, Holcim Philippines Senior Vice President for Sales William Sumalinog discussed Holcim’s willingness and ability to support Mindanao’s manufacturing industry. Holcim promises to become a more potent force in the development of the region.

“As you can see, we are not slowing down, especially at this time when the government has deemed it essential to continue upgrading infrastructures in the country. Doing so does not only raise the level of competitiveness of the manufacturing industry but also shield the economy from the blows of the pandemic. We remain confident that we are well equipped to deliver great value and support to builders working to improve the competitiveness of Mindanao’s manufacturing sector and all our stakeholders in the region who are united in their dreams of a better Mindanao,” he said.

Now that we are still under a pandemic, Holcim’s innovations, road infrastructure cement Solido and pavement repair solution SuperFastCrete, and other digital designs, would sure make Mindanao rise to the challenges brought about by Covid-19.
