DBS’ 2020 virtual event, Christmas in our Hearts, was a Fruitful Gathering

The year 2020 has not been an easy feat for all of us. A lot of adjustments had to be made by everyone in every sector of society. The DBS officers, members, and our collaborators, particularly, have had 2020 planned out at the start of last year, only to have been blocked by the grueling Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite everything, however, the DBS officers and BOT made sure to have virtual gatherings after the supposed events were canceled. With the help of the DBS co-presenters, PLDT and Paymaya, the virtual Christmas Party, Christmas in our Hearts: Yuletide Hats and Headpieces, took place on December 12, 2020.

Since the whole world is still at the onset of the pandemic, everyone must follow certain protocols. The DBS officers organized the virtual party on Google Meet. Digital cash credits were also given away to all attendees in lieu of physical items, care of the DBS org.

Despite its limitations and a few unexpected mishaps, Christmas in our Hearts: Yuletide Hats and Headpieces was a success. Most active members of DBS have joined in and strutted their creative and unique headpieces for the event. It was fun to see and feel everyone’s virtual smiles and quirks.

The DBS officers have prepared two delightful games: the “Bugtong-Bugtong,” a riddle game, and “Guess the Gibberish,” a word game that made hits on TikTok. Apart from that, a raffle draw was staged, with gifts from DBS co-presenters and sponsors up for grabs. And lastly, who could ever forget the most coveted contest every year–the Best Dressed Male and Female of the night?

Karl Butaslac, who joined the event all the way from New York, USA, won the Best Dressed Male, after donning a quirky reindeer hat that he said he was still going to return. Meanwhile, the unsurpassable Pau Ruta brought home the Best Dressed Female award for her reindeer and fruit headpiece that matched her exceptional DIY make-up.

The DBS Christmas virtual party was a fruitful event. It was a way for the members to bond and have fun together again, after the lockdowns and canceled events. DBS looks forward to facing 2021 and continues to become instruments of hope, creativity, and responsibility amidst whatever the world deals with in everyday life.
